ok as i mentioned up top, i DONT want to blow smoke all the time, just for some special effects for some movies, nothing more! maybe i'll just stick with a garbage bag over my air filter... cause i aint messing with my IP or timing, cause i got it right where i want it, no smoke plenty of power, great gas mileage...

cant really have a on demand smoke setting since its an idi. if you want smoke, turn the pump up some. if you want little to no smoke, turn down the pump. theres really no way around it.
Alrighty, Thanks Jarrod B. i didnt think there was another way, just had to check

There is also another smoke limiter...its called your right foot.

If you have a N/A truck with the pump turned up it will actually be annoying how much smoke you will have. As everytime you shift more than likely you will smoke. My 2-3 shift is so bad (1800rpm's 2nd to 1100rpm's third), that I dont even try and it smokes.

Also if you smoke all the time your oil life goes down.

First off, watch the tone. You just got the truck and now you are the subject matter expert.....nice! You gave the original poster information he said he didnt want ie he mentioned NOT wanting to adjust the injection pump.
Second, Yes the "switch" (really?) or adjustment screw on the injection pump (not fuel pump!!!) allows you to adjust the amount of fuel that can be sent to the engine.

Instead of giving no useful information that is based off someone else's experience, in a post that contains almost no punctuation, give something someone can use.

For instance, if you do need to turn up your fuel to realize the gains to be had from a turbo, check this link out:

"Fuel injection pump adjustment article"

But be warned that you should have an exhaust temp guage before you ever touch the fuel adjustment screw or you could burn up your engine fairly easily. Especially, if you do not have a turbo!!!

Basically, you gave no useful info and misinformation that could ruin this guys rig if he were dumb enough to do something to his rig based on what you said.......

End Rant.

To the original poster.....sorry about my rant. Good luck with your rig and just don't act like a 16 year old kid with your rig and you will get tons of usage out of it. My bad if I came across harsh.....

dakotajeep, u can eat ****, if you put the injection pump up it gives more fuel to the injectors which creates less burned fuel which creates black smoke
Wow, great attitude for a "seasoned diesel veteran" to have.
