Just picked up a 2001 7.3 excursion looking into some mods to increase the life of this truck, first thing getting done is the oil bypass filter and while im on the oil system mods I figured id ask the benefits of the oil crossover line, what does this do for the engine other than quite it down, haven't found much info other than the noticeable difference in sound and if that's the only real benefit to it ill pass lol the noise doesn't bother me lol

IIRC, cylinders #6 and #8 fire sequentially and since they are next to each other "sharing" the same HP oil in the rail the thought was that one of those could be "short" of oil. The crossover is supposed to supply some oil from the other side's rail to alleviate that condition. I had one on my 94, but I didn't put one on my 97. The part I don't like is that it is another failure point for a massive oil leak (and right in front of the turbo to boot). Cheers!
