Hey guys,

I have a '95 F250 7.3L PSD and it's leaking oil on the drivers side near the bottom. I was told it could be the oil cooler, but I have no idea where that is or what it looks like. I have a Chilton manual but I don't see anything in there about an oil cooler???? :dunno:

The last time I drove it was a week ago (I checked the oil the day before i drove it) So today I went outside and noticed a small 10" oil spot on the ground underneath the truck. So I checked the oil and it was below add... it was full the day before I drove it so I think the oil leaked out on the road while I was driving a week ago.

Does this sound like the oil cooler? and does anyone have / know of some pics, info, or diagrams so I can fix this? I do have mechanical experience but not on diesels.... this is my first problem with this truck.

Okay, so I found some info on the oil cooler and checked it, it appears to be the problem.

I order a gasket & o-ring kit and might do some photos of the repair to post.

oil cooler

I do not have leak at my oil cooler,but what i have is some time in the past the
check valve& spring fell out and we only found the spring and i understand if
you do not have check valve in place thats not good. Is there a way of just buying a new spring&check valve,what also found out is some yrs are just staked and some have a clip to hold them in place.
I have a feeling of having to buy a oil cooler to get check valve&spring.
I do not know how they are built but would a better way to go would be to add
a dual filter system and maybe get a check valve built into it,thanks

dude i had to replace my oil cooler..easy easy easy. first off drain ur colant and then take ur oil filter off. in the drivers side wheel well u can see the oil cooler. take a 10 mm socket and take the three bolts off that hold the oil filter then leave the front 2 bolts on..there hard to take off. take a pry bar and get that cooler off with that oil filter mount on the cooler. then once u get it off put the cooler in the vise and get that end piece off. ur gonna want a new cooler and o rings and a rear gasket for the end piece u unbolted. use grease or vasline to lube the new o rings and re install first with the end piece then use up the front part of the cooler and use that pry bar and use it to push the end back into the front piece u left on the side of the block. thats how i did mine. if that helps

Also check your block heater. If it's bad now is the time to replace it. Take a good look at the mating surface where coolant runs through the cooler to the block. Mine was all pitted and leaking. I welded some of it and took a pass to machine the surface..no more oil or coolant leaks...Or should i say 2 more leaks fixed...lol The cooler o-rings are $$ Also NAPA had the incorrect gaskets for the cooler to block even though they were listed correctly; I had to go to Ford for them

just go order the cooler and the o rings from ford thats what i did. ya they cost a bit i think it was 325 for everything but then you know you got the right part and it fits perfect. i painted my oil cooler to help it from getting rusted up but u only need the rear gasket that the oil filter housing bolts to the block and the 4 o rings that keep the anit freeze and oil apart from each other.
