Hi I’m having some trouble and was wondering if anyone on here had any advice.
I have a 94’ f350 idi that had a 97 7.3 power stroke installed. I believe the transmission is aftermarket as well but not completely sure.
I am having some issues with the transmission so I decided to plug in my scanner(innova 5512), when I plug it in it seems to be working fine, power comes on, connects to the truck, says not codes on the truck, but when I go to scan any of the modules I get a error back that I need to connect to the truck.
Any info helps, thanks

If I am not mistaken, OBD2 wasn't fully implemented until 95 and later model years.

Hopefully someone else can chime in with further details regarding your specific situation.

Right but I believe that since the engine is a 97 that when they put it in they installed the Obd2 port since The connector looks like one and I can’t plug in my attachment for obd1

I had a 95 explorer that had what looked like an OBD2 connector, but couldn't read codes with an OBD2 reader.

Your engine is a 97, but what year is your power train control module?

Yeah, many of the more generic scanners won't read these trucks. If the Powerstroke was swapped in, the PCM is probably capable of having the OBD2 port active (from the factory, 94 PSDs had both the OBD1 port in the engine compartment and the OBD2 port under the dash ... it just wasn't active). I would do like White95f250 mentioned. I would say use Forscan, but if you use IOS you can't download it right now (issues with Apple and Russia). Check to see what your PCM actually is. Here is a picture of mine using my iphone (barely enough space between the inner fender and PCM to get a pic!). Mine is a California 97 model, so it runs a DPC-312 PCM. Yours will probably run a DPC-202 or DPC-203 depending on transmission. Cheers!

My scanner runs both obd1 and 2. Where is the pcm normally located. Sorry I’m still learning about this stuff and don’t mean to have stupid questions. When I look at what I thought I as the pcm it says pwb on it

I didn’t know that there can be a obd1 port in the engine bay so I will also look for that when I get home from work and try that

Will be difficult to tell since it was a motor swap. OBDII would be under the dash by the transmission tunnel on a 95+. Being a 94 with motor swap they could have put it anywhere depending on their quality of work.

The only "stupid" question, is the one you didn't ask because you thought you would feel stupid -- We all had starting points at one time or another

PCM should be on the drivers side fender basically. Access it from the firewall.

So I found it and it says DPC-202

So, your PCM is for the E4OD (automatic) transmission. Did you happen to get the program code off of it too? For example, in the pic of mine, the program code is MME7. Cheers!
