I was pulling a small boat up a ramp and inadvertently had the gear selector in "3" instead of "D" and had no power at all. Engine RPM's up and didn't move much. In "D" there were no problems pulling out.

Any suggestions on things to check?

Just the driver. trying to pull 3rd gear up a hill isnt going to work very well. unless you have an underlying issue, there should be nothing wrong with the trans at all. nothing to worry about.

I was thinking putting it in “3” limited the highest gear to third but apparently it puts into third right out of the gate. Learn something new every day.

In my defense, on GM products, at least mine, it works like I thought. If you have it in "3" and start off from a stop it shifts through the gears and limits the high gear to third.

So beware, this isn't a universal tool that works the same way across brands.

I figured it was, gassers are very different in how they create and apply power.

Glad we could help explain things.
