Hey all,
2001 7.3L F350 125k miles

Just pulled the boat through town 95-99 degrees, 5500lbs or so in weight on the boat. Got home, backed it in driveway, unhooked, and then when to pull away, and no forward. Pulled it down to "1" or 1st gear, and eventually she went in to gear.

Got it back in the driveway, parked it for 15 minutes. Started it up, checked the fluid good while running, no burnt smell, bright pink. Put it in 1st moved it, moved it to "D" drive, and away she went.

Reverse and 1st seemed to work fine or ok through this ordeal....but Drive was another story.

Thoughts from the experts?

Mine did that.. It was the front pump.. Might as well put a tranny in, you have to pull it anyway..

well let it sit for 4 hours. Started it up. Drives fine, shifts gears. I think I will take it to the shop tomorrow and see what they say....I am guessing I will get the bad news that a new tranny is needed. Keep ya all posted.:thumb:

Well initial outlook is good.

Hooked up to different scanners at the biggest/best tranny shop in town. Gave no codes back. Took it for a test drive, and found out that yesterday, it actually was in gear with "D", unfortunately it was 4th gear as the starter. Hooked up another computer scanner, which allows them to shift gears while you drive, and the tranny is solid and shifts through all gears just fine. So they think it is the PCM or computer module on the truck screwin things up. They are doing some searching for prices on parts, etc...and plan on changing fluid/filter at the same time.

Keep ya posted.

If that had been the case, truck should have still tried to move.
Most probable is center support bearing comeing apart. It supports the shaft that goes to the forward clutches. If the shaft gets off center, sealing rings cannot seal.

Yep...it did try to move...I just had to give it some more gas. They replicated what happened out there, and they said give er some gas, which I did.......and away she went down the road in 4th gear.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, a bulliten about the computer seeing 100 mph while sitting still, which would make the trans start off in 4th. If they can replicate it with the scanner hooked up, they shoul be able to look at mph on the scanner and see if that is what's happening.
