My wife and I recently purchased a 1999 F350 Dually with the 7.3. Everything about this truck is new to me, never had a ford, never had a truck much less a dually and never had a diesel. Needless to say there is quite a learning curve. There's not even an owners manual to look through so I will be looking for one of those online.

My initial question is, should the lights, heater\AC, radio and windows all work without the key in the ignition? I never had a car that they did but on this truck they do. I am afraid of leaving the blower on or something and killing the battery.

It looks like the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo, amp and sub that they pulled out, perhaps they screwed up the wiring when doing that?

Also the passenger power window doesn't work. I don't hear any clicking when I push the button for it on either door, does that mean its the motor?

Thanks for the help.

The lights radio and the windows will work for a little bit after you pull the key but as soon as you open the door all of them will stop. The AC/heater should not be working without the ignition on.

The window motors are easy to change, can be done quickly. I have changed my drivers side twice and passenger side once.

Thanks for the info.

Turns out the problem goes a bit deeper, after further research and investigation it looks to be an issue with the GEM module. Water was leaking at the top of the windshield, going down the pillar and getting the fuse panel and GEM wet. Looks like its a big issue with this trucks.

I have already pulled the windshield out, started repairs on the sheet metal and will be taking a look at the electrical today.

Good to know if the window motor is bad that its easy to change.

Thanks.

In the end it was fuse box rot and the GEM module seems ok. I took apart the fuse box layer by layer, repaired all the corroded traces, some of which were completely disconnected, reassembled, and gave it all a healthy coating of corrosionX. Re-installed everything in the truck and to my delight it all seems to work great now. :woot:

The passenger window still doesnt work though, so I will pull apart the door tomorrow and take a look.

After that I need to tackle the oil leak...
