09 6.4 just recently rebuilt top end, new heads rocker, bridges front cover water pump charge pipes coolant hoses radiator intercooler ect. A lot of new parts. After initially getting it back together bleeding all the air out it started up ran a little rough had some smoke and through a code for injector 3 imbalance and cylinder 3 misfire. Changed the injector last night bled air out truck started right up idled good let it warm up and drove it down the road it ran good came back to the house let it idle for about 20 mins checking around for leaks and what not went to drive it again and it shut off when I put it in drive and touched the pedal. Then it won’t start. Motor turns over but it’s like it’s not getting fuel or fire let the truck sit soon has it cools back down it’ll fire right up idle all day rev it up while it’s in park soon has you put it in gear and touch the pedal it shuts off and won’t start again until it cools off. It’s not throwing any codes. I bled it again and I’m not getting any air out of the fuel lines on top of the fuel cooler. Any body have any ideas of what it could be or what I need to check? Sensors? Fuel pressure problem? I’m stumped!

Strange. I'll do some thinking. what are you attempting to read codes with? Assume all fluids are in good shape. When you put it in gear does it run until you release the brake pedal and touch the accelerator?
Yes all fluids are new and full. Yes when you let off the break and touch the accelerator it just dies. Then when you try to crank it, it just turns over and over never even sounds like it’s going to fire up. Let it sit till it’s cold again and boom starts right up idles good while it’s cold you can put it in drive and take off but soon has its warm it dies out almost like it’s stalling

I suggest getting ForScan and see if you can read the codes
this engine is pretty aware of electrical problems
you should have the error light on the dash - lit

Have you checked the fuel pressure at the filter ?
schrader valve there -- 3-8 psi

I’ve checked it with my “autozone” scan tool and the programmer diagnostic check no codes showing up. The cel light isn’t lit on the dash. I’m gonna check the fuel pressure, grounds and electrical/sensor connections today

Now it’s throwing cylinder 3 & 6 contribution/balance fault and a long crank when cold still no start when warm. Let truck cool off uninstalled tune truck fired up perfect but smokes like crazy again. Let the truck warm up put it in drive made it about half way around the yard it stalls out and won’t restart again.

Currently changing out the low pressure fuel pump/lift pump. Took off the fuel cap and started to drain the filter housing. It wouldn’t stop draining! So I cracked the filter cap open, it still wouldn’t stop draining! Completely took the filter cap and filter out this thing is still pouring fuel almost a 5 gallon bucket full with no signs of stopping! Is there a way to stop it or am I just gonna have to make a mess and change this thing out fast as possible?

That happens, esp when tank is full. As you remove the cap and filter from hfcm it should stop. Messy. One reason I went aftermarket. How did you determine that was the problem? Also, don't know if it's the same on 6.4s, but probably ought to do motocraft. On the 6.0 I'm on my 4th dorman pump, warranty covers, but a pain. Shame, I've got a good condition hfcm taking up garage space along with a mess of other parts.

Yeah, ...wait until the fuel is low in the tank before changing that filter -- that is a stupid place for the filter anyways -- some engineer should be slapped

Man I can’t figure it out I just started at the cheapest point and am working my way through it. Replaced the low pressure fuel pump/lift pump nothing changed replaced all the injectors and the sensor inside the passenger side valve cover last night nothings changed. I guess high pressure next. It’s crazy things fires right up idles good put it in gear and it starts running rough and shuts off. Then it won’t crank. It’s almost like it’s lost prime but after it sits for an hour or so it’ll fire right back up. I really don’t know what to do at this point other than just throw parts at it

If you have any suggestions or parts, sensors whatever you think I may need to change I’m open to it!

The won't crank is concerning. Excessive pressure in a cylinder?
Gonna need the OP to define what "won't crank" means --
could be anything from turn the key and nothing happens (silent) , to turns the key and the starter tries, but sounds like the engine is locked

Open to replacing unneeded parts - fire the parts cannon , is what I see here
but not open to testing to see if those pares are really necessary
ForScan was suggested, so you can read the engine system operating parameters
then if needed replace an offending part

Maybe the injectors had high mileage and were needed anyways, ...but testing for the active problem first would have been a good path to follow. There may well be new problems that were created from the injector install.
Could be something as simple as a critter chewed wire, and when you put the truck in gear and the engine rocks against the motor mounts, ...the wire separates

It won’t start it just cranks and cranks. Is forescan just a brand of scan tool? I’ve hooked it to two different scan tools the only codes I’ve got were contribution imbalance
