Hey yall, working on my '96 Chevy Silverado. Its has 6.5L turbo diesel. Anyway it runs like a dream, but every once in a while it will just turn off. No warning, no spitting and sputtering it just dies. I found this on GM-Diesel.com Information, and discussion, related to General Motors line of diesel engines, including the new Duramax, and other diesels in general. and I was wondering if any of you have had this problem. Its a long shot but I hope.

Engine Stalls
Here is an easy way to zero in on a stalling problem.
If it feels like someone reached over and turned off the key and it fires back up right away it's the injection pump.
If the same thing happens but it has to cool down before restarting it's the PMD / FSD(pump mounted driver).

Also, when I registered on gm-diesel I used my email that I used to register on here with and the admin sent me a mesage that my email address was banned on that site. I have never even been on that sight. Whats that about. I had to use my back up email!

i have heard of this problem a guy i work with has seen this and the fix seems to be buy new drivers and rewire them to the fender area, the vibration of the engine prematurely kills them

Buy a harness and relocate PMD. Stock heat sync is crappy and the components melt when it is at stock location. Your PMD is probably cooked already. Doesn't sound like the IP

+2 or 3 on the pmd. Heat kills them. It's hard to get at without removing the intake. But if you get a pmd cooler and a harness extension it mounts it out from under the intake beside the air intake. !!

Check here PMDCooler.com.

Or make your own if your inclined!

Awesome. Did you get a harness extension and a cooler for it also? As for removing the old harness i think i remember something about using a butter knife lol

Shouldn't need a butter knife.:)
Should unclip easily. Take the plenum off, that should be all you need to do to get at it. Where are you relocating to?

Ouch, bandaid fix though. What about making your own? Anything to get it off the IP would help.
