Need help 2006 6.0 No start

I’ve got a 2006 6.0. 191,000 miles was bulletproofed, studded, new heads and a few other things done by previous owner at 162,000. I have receipts. Truck sounds like it surges going down interstate and has started dying on me. Sometimes it will start right back but when it won’t ipr duty cycle goes to 84%. Sometimes I will have to let it cool down, sometimes it will start back after just a couple minutes. Am I dealing with a faulty IPR? TIA

Sounds like a high pressure oil leak. Any codes? Post some data cranking and running. IPR, ICP psi and ICP v, FICM voltage.

I’m just going off my sctx4 but at warm idle icp duty cycle is showing .21, ficm shows 48.5v injection pressure is right under 600 at idle. Everything looks to be in check based off what I’ve seen. When it died on me the other day and I had to wait 20 minutes to start it back, when it started back it threw a p2623 code which I think showed something to do with ipr. But like I said sometimes after it dies it will start right back up after a couple minutes. I also noticed almost a surge going down the interstate here lately. I can hear the motor kind of whining up and down but no loss of power or anything. I was just hoping it was a bad ipr because that’s something I’m fine with changing but if it’s anything more than that I’ll just put it in shop.
The guy I bought it off of had all that work done, I feel like they would’ve replaced the stand pipe and dummy plugs since that’s a known problem.
P2623:
Open/grounded IPR circuit. Stuck IPR. Loose connection. Shorted out IPR. Pull back insulation on the connector wiring to inspect. (note - this can cause a no-start, typically it will act up when hot)

Based off the little bit I’ve given you, I know it’s not much, would you say my issue lies within the ipr whether it be the ipr itself or the wiring? This is my feed truck so I use it everyday to feed cattle so I can’t really afford for it to be down. Was thinking about going ahead and ordering ipr and socket and then tearing into it. And if it was a high pressure oil leak wouldn’t it not start back until it cools down every time? Like I said sometimes it’ll start back within a couple minutes and twice it’s had to sit 20 or 30 minutes.
TBH, I like to blame the IPR, but seems I am more frequently wrong on that than right.......and it ends up being in the wiring. That area sees some significant heat.
Do you think I should go ahead and order new pigtail along with new ipr?
Depends on how much of a hurry you are in. If you can wait, then I would check out the wiring and THEN decide what to order based on what you find or don't find. You probably will have to peel back insulation and wiring harness jacketing.

In a recent thread a guy was in a real bind and he decided to replace 3-4 sensors all at once, instead of taking the time to troubleshoot each one. It worked for him. He hit the road pretty much when he needed to, but he spent more money than he probably would have if he would have got the multimeter out. He texted me a few hours ago and had 300+ trouble free miles under his belt. There is a time and place for multiple approaches.

When it wouldn’t start the other day I pulled plug on icp and it still wouldn’t start so I know icp sensor is good. I’ll just get the ipr ordered and have it on hand for when I tear it apart. Hopefully it’ll either be the wiring on the valve itself. I really appreciate your help. Haven’t got much feedback on a couple fb 6.0 pages. If new ipr and pigtail doesn’t fix it, I’ll just try to find the time and get it in the shop. I’ve got a buddy that’s over the shop at local ford place so he’d prolly do an air leak test for me for nothing and then go from there. Once again I appreciate it.

With that code, the odds are in your favor for the issue being one or the other. That said, the 6.0L never seems to quit with its surprises.

Glad to help.
Lol no kidding. I knew better than to buy one but it was what I was needing and I’m a powerstroke guy. Have a 6.7 and 6.0 now and had a 7.3 and 6.4. I figured I was in pretty good shape with all the work the guy had done. Love the truck though, just got my sct today and waiting on innovative to email me my custom tunes. Just hoping to resolve this issue fairly easy which sounds like I might be able to. Anywhere online in particular to order ipr from? I know go oem but I’ve seen them priced anywhere from $160 to $240 on different sites.
A lot depends on where you live. We can point you to some good prices on line, but sometimes shipping is unreasonable.

We like Auto Nation White Bear Lake (or Tasca).

Part number: 5C3Z-9C968-CA

Sometimes, FordParts.com can get you the same price and delivery is free if you select to pick it up at a local dealership. From what I see on the IPR, it is too high through them ($275).

Rock Auto is $153, and I know they are popular, but for some reason I struggle with decisions on buying their stuff. Can't explain why, but I would rather spend extra at an on line dealership - at least on electronics. That said, $50 is a nice sum to save.
Extreme Diesel is another common choice, but they are a bit higher than ANWBL.
Tasca is $188:

Sunrise Ford is $184:

FairWay Ford (Ohio):
Tasca is $188:

I live in Arkansas, I’m just going to pay for 2 day shipping or whatever so I can have it here by Friday. Going to tear into it Saturday.
RiffRaff is another good place to shop: $184

I forgot about them. Ordered some stuff from them for my 7.3

I see 2 different style pigtails for the ipr. The oem has a plastic clip and the aftermarket ones have a wire clip. Go with the oem?
