Hello everyone I am new to the forum. I am going to buy a new truck after the first of the year and at the moment I am leaning towards a Ford. I will be using the truck as a truck it will spend alot of time in the woods on logging roads and also be hooked up to an equipment trailer alot. I have been lurking and reading alot and have heard several comments about abuse and dirty fuel causing bad problems. Is this a big problem? I started out with a 6.9 ford and went thru ford trucks till 01 when I switched to dodges. Then after dodge messed up there trucks with common rail i tried d-maxs for awhile. Here is a list of the trucks I have had I really dont want to make a 60k dollar mistake but I am needing a new truck bad.
88 f350 6.9 reliable but weak
93 f350 7.3 reliable but weak (by todays standards)
97 f250 7.3 awesome motor weak tranny
99 f250 7.3 perfect truck but 2wd
01 f250 7.3 perfect truck just wore it out
02 ram 2500 good truck bought second hand and just wanted a new one
03 ram 2500 good truck bad injector problems
05 ram 3500 horrible (3 long blocks in 24k miles)
05 chevy 2500 decent
07 chevy 2500 great truck no problems just to weak suspension for the woods
08 chevy 2500 also great just not a work truck
93 dodge w250 this is the war wagon you just cant beat it lol poor ol girl is just wore out and only has 160 hp and 400 ft/lbs lol.

I guess my main question is can these trucks take the abuse or should I find a 99-02 and spend the money rebuilding an old truck?

I've seen several 6.7l FoMoCo's both in the oil patch and in the woods(loggers), neither of whom seem to be babying them. They said/say they hold up well.

I tow on occassion but mostly I hot rod it. It is stock and runs strong. I have had zero issues with it and have owned it since August off 2011!

Poor fuel quality Will be an issue in any new diesel

Bad fuel is horrible for the new engines. If you have issues with fuel I would say to do fuel filters earlier and also add a fuel additive. That's the only issue I see you having if the fuel quality is that bad.
