I have metal Shavings where my starter motor bolts up. Starter is fine but it looks like there's damage to flywheel and casing.

I have no input on what is happening but it looks like the shavings are aluminum. It looks like there are scratches on the case by the bottom of the teeth on the flywheel in the second pic.

Do you have any suggestions?. My only symptom was slow cranking, then when it started it was shaking the whole truck, heard a grinding noise then it shut off. I tried cranking it via the single wire to battery with key off. Starter just spun, wouldn't engage . I removed it and that's what I saw.

Seeing as you have the starter out I would inspect and test it to make sure nothing is funky with the bendix etc.
Then bare the engine over one tooth at a time and look for any thing that may be able to do that kind of milling on the inside of the case.
Can you move the flexplate/ring gear excessively fore & aft or up and down
with a bar?
