Just wondering what the safe max boost a 7.3 IDI Factory Turbo can handle?? I am going to put a gauge on it and I have a little "boost gain" trick but I need to know what it can handle safely. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated!!

i wouldnt take an IDI much over 15-17.......with the compression ratio being higher anything above that and your really risking damage to cylenders.....#7 is usually the first to go...

'92 IDI 7.3 wearing a Banks Sidewinder, exhaust, gauges, maxxes out @ 15 psi when everything's working right. Seem to have to change the blower seal (just an O-ring) every few months, but it's always easy to see when it's due - starts blowing by the seal and max boost drops to 10.

I can see you guy`s talking 15... 17... 19 psi boost on a 7,3 IDI, anyone who has
run a dyno? how mouch hp tourq ??
I have a dyno report on a factory turbo with a better exhaust and air intake, I will look it up and post it tomarro. I can tell you my '94 is a pullin dude!!!!! I have owned every diesel Ford has put in a pick-up and this old truck is right up their with my 7.3 Powerstrokes and it out-pulls my '08 6.4 by 3-8 mph on every hill in overdrive where the 6.4 downshifts. I am super impressed! This truck really came alive when I put a new turbo-back exhaust, Hypertech air intake, and turned the pump up half a turn and it has almost 294,000 miles on it!! Definately one of the very best trucks I have ever owned. Take a look at my garage gallery to see some of the loads I have been hauling with it (most of these loads are going to NM form AZ and another load back the other way). I doubt the boys at Ford knew that this little F250 would be pulling a 40' flatbed loaded to hilt 14 years later! Thanks for all the input guys!

My 2001 with the power pack system maxes at 22 psi. Never get more tham 950 on the egt. This is at 2800 RPM's towing up a hill. Have the billet converter also and exhaust brake and trans-lock.

Anything above 12psi out of a stock turbo kit is super heating the air, and you wont see any gains in performance. More than likely you will see a decrease.

A lot of guys are referring to there powerstrokes. This is an IDI. Our compression is way higher than yours, we cant run that much boost.

One "kid" on another site was telling everybody that he was going to fab a turbo onto his motor, turn it 4500rpm's, and push close to 30psi till it blew up.

I would have so payed the money to drive there to watch
