obs 7.3 engine were bad for the oil galley plugs on the end of the heads to bust an o-ring , need to look there , if the valley is dry , also look around the turbo area , the pedestal o-rings can leak , when you say massive , how massive a leak is it
well its bad enought that i drove about 10 miles to the shop and with in 5 minutes of parking i had about a 4 inch spot of oil. and how would i check the bold in the back of the head. light and mirror?on a lift?
when i had a valley plug leak on my 7.3 it seemed like a major leak on the ground but was not to bad watching the dip stick, mine was on the back very hard to see where it was coming from.i did'nt even finish telling the service guy on the phone before he said galley plug leak.
they are a little hard to see , a mirror and a flash light would be best , dont have to have it on a lift , its a big plug like an inch and half across ,with a square in the middle that a half inch rachet will fit in , replaced quite a few on older 7.3 engines, there is oe of those plugs on each end of the head , its the oil galley plugs on the ends
ok so that means that i need to check that and if thats it then need to order a new one? is a ford only part or can i get it else were.

i think is a dealer item, if that is what it is , just tell them you need the big oil galey plug and by the way have fun putting it in, they can be a bear
well if thats it then i might just start taking th turbo off to do the up pipe gaskets at the same time. so itll just be a big job all together

you must be gluttin for punishment :hehe:
ya but i like working on them. thats why im going to school for it. but then i guess ill have to see what im about to get into when i go to the shop tomorrow.
well finally got the truck in the shop today and really got to look at what i had. and found the leak. it was coming from the dip stick hole in the oil pan. and who had ever owned it before me had striped the threads out and had a ton of silicone over it. and so ya. wasnt sure how to fix it so i cleaned it with starting fluid and put some new silicone on it to slow the leak down. so i need help on how to fix my problem
Had mine done in march as well as a small oil leak in the valley, $1000 apparently the plug on the drivers side is the worst to get to, now it looks like the other side is leaking now:doh:
well now i just have to figure out how to fix the dip stick hole on the oil pan

i have seen alot of those get sripped they sell the kit for the pan with a new nut , alot of times just replacing the nut on the outside and getting it back tight will fix the problem, but by all means dont drop the inner piece in the pan, if you do , might as well jerk the engine out , remove the starter and make it easier to access , clip a pair of vise grips to the inner piece and be very careful
ok so were do i get the kit from to fix it. ????
ford can get the kit , cant get just the nut but there is a kit , comes with the big nut , the inside piece and a new o-ring which is also inside the pan, make sure pressure is kept against the inside piece so the o-ring doesnt fall down
so with the kit do you replace all of it or just the oring and nut?
the only piece you can replace is the nut , the other 2 pieces are inside the pan, you said the nut was stripped , if thats the case its very possible to put a new one on it and get it to tighten
well ill have to check and make sure the nut is striped. and if its the other end then im just kinda up a creek with out a paddle then?

yep , only way to replace it is with the engine out and pan off
