hey guys, i have a banks big head wastegate on my 00 7.3L ..... bought already installed. i recently purchased a TS 6 position chip. i love the thing btw. i have been noticing that when i put my foot into it now it is constantly releasing pressure. so i have a feeling that it is not adjusted correctly. any tips on where it should be set at? that's probably a silly question but the follow up to this is, once i adjust the wastegate to open later, hence build more boost inside turbo and release at higher boost psi, the map sensor with still read overboost and start to defuel truck, so its pointless to do unless i have a boost fooler. i am just throwing this out there for people to put there .2$ in on. if i am missing or over looking anything please let me know.....i still have to get a set of gauges for truck. but i think i should be able to set wastegate to around 30 psi (safely) ???? also since the map sensor starts to defuel truck once seen overboost wont this process of adjusting wastegate and putting a boost fooler on it produce better acceleration?? :icon_ford:

any ideas on how to keep the truck from jumping out of over drive? @ around 40mpg it locks in i think. and when i put my foot into the slightest bit it down shift like crazy... i am driving about this speed to work and what not so it is always jumping in and outa overdrive.... needs to stop.

So your gauge is showing the boost drop the more throttle you give it? I would take the TS out and see if the overdrive still does it.

I dont have gauges yet, thise are this weeks purchase. But i can hear the waste gate opening and closing all the time. And it only does it when its in 100 and 140 tune. Or is that turbo surge??? I am getting a wicked wheel to see if that fixes it

I would bet it is surge. I don't think you can hear the wastegate. I'm sure you are hearing something but I don't know how it would be the wastegate. If it is only on the hot tunes I would look to surge. I had some bad surge really getting into it with the stock turbo with the tuner.

I had one of my mechanics go for a ride with me and waited till it happened, he said its surge 100%..... but has no idea what causes it. So what does cause turbo surge?

Cause in our trucks is usually getting out of the efficiency range of the compressor. Which is why a lot of people "cure" it by changing compressor wheels or changing the housing.
