Hi All,

going to be draining my coolant system next week to do some “EGR work” 👀 and figured I’d try to address something else I’d read about. Recently saw some videos about 17+ models installing a low-temp high-flow thermostat in the primary cooling system to correct high EOT and ECT problems. I’m in a 2015 and tow a 10k camper up/down mountains in some pretty hot places. It hasn’t been a HUGE issue, bu I do have to be conscious of how much I’m asking the truck to do. It’ll creep into the 230+ range, kicking the fan on if it reaches 240 as designed. As I understand, these newer thermostats are for the primary cooling system on 17+ but will fit an 11-16 primary system as well. In my attempts to research, searches only want to direct me to the primary system on the 17+ instead of detailing the operation of our secondary system on the 11-16.

I say all of that to pose these questions...does changing the primary thermostat on 11-16 do nothing for EOT and associated ECT? If it doesn’t, is there an option out there for a secondary system thermostat which is also”low-temp high-flow”?

I ran the SPE low temp thermostat for a few months in my 13 and it dropped temps while towing. It took about 10° of coolant and oil temps towing uphill. I had to take it out after some modifications because it ran too cool, my coolant temps would go above 180. I'm running a stock thermostat again now.

Cause diesel motors love heat. Then consider your modern day diesel motor oils can EASILY sustain 250*F ALL DAY long. Then you realize that lowering temps are NOT always the best thing you can do for your motor, transmission, fuel system, etc etc etc

Live with the OEM stuff. It's working for the other 6 million PSD trucks running on the roads.

Stay away from that junk science on YouTube from the lug nut hack tech.
