I am currently looking to purchase a 7.3 Power Stroke. I plan on using the truck to pull a 10k toy hauler trailer.

I wanted to see if there is anything that I need to "look out for" while doing so. Is any years better the each other.

I am currently looking for is a 99-03 4x4 Crew Cab truck.

Is there any mileage related issues with Motor/Trans etc?

Do you plan on keeping the truck stock?

Just the tranny I'd say. Look for any hard shifting, which would only likely be in harsh conditions. Once you get it see if the CPS recall has been done. A very minor problem.

If you get a 03 7.3 you'll have yourself a 5 speed torshift provided its auto.

Is the 03 trans better then the 99-02?

Edit: Please excuse the Tardness, I am just looking for alot better of an option then my 91 F350 w/ 460 getting 4-5 mpg while towing

Actually the 03 toqshift trans only comes with the 6.0 in 2003. You can get the 7.3 and 6.0 in 03. The 7.3 still comes with the 4r100 trans in 03. Well if you plan on high hp mods then stick with a 99 or 2000 as they come with forged rods in the motor. After that they were pmr's or powdered metal rods and they will hold around 400 rwhp. So if you just plan on a chip and exhaust for towing then it doesn't matter and I would look for the 02-03 7.3.

7.3's didn't come with the 5R110. They came with the 4R100 in the 99-03 model years. The 7.3 is a bullit proof engine. I would look at the service records and if it looks like it was taken care of you should be fine. As for the tranny, it's only a matter of time. If the truck is stock and driven respectfully I would at least expect 150K miles out of it.

Is there any advantage of the 02-03 over the 99/2000?
