Harpoon Mod - cutting the vent tube in the fuel tank shorter. This will result in faster fill up times and 7-10 more gallons of fuel can be put in the tank!

Lifting the bed off your truck will be the easiest way to Harpoon your fuel tank. The only problem with lifting the bed is that its heavy and large.

Tools/Supplies you will need:

* 7mm socket
* T50 torx socket for bed bolts
* Ratchet
* Ratcheting pipe cutter (Doesnt have to be that, just makes it easier. Any pipe cutter will do)
* Large screwdriver and hammer (You will need this to unscrew the pickup from the tank)
* A method of lifting the bed

Step 1
: Open up the fuel fill door. Unscrew the cap and leave it off. Take out the three 7mm screws.

Step 2
: Take out the six bed bolts with your T50 torx. They can be a pain to get out. It would not hurt to spray them with PB blaster the night before.

Step 3
: Under the truck by the spare tire is a connector for the running lights. Disconnect it.

Step 4
: Now time to lift the bed. You can do this anyway you like. I used a overhead block and tackle with a homemade bracket for lifting beds.

I put a blanket on the front of the bed to keep from scratching the bed or the cab.

Step 5
: Now starts the Harpoon mod. Take your hammer and screwdriver and tap the cap on the pickup to unscrew it. It is on there very tight. Now pull the pickup out of the tank and set it to the side. I had to disconnect the fuel level sender to get the pickup out of the way. Disregard the different color truck. I harpooned two trucks that day.

Also, be sure to clean the screen at the bottom of the pickup. It will have trash in it. Pull it off and blow it with some compressed air

Step 6: Get your ratcheting pipe cutters and snip the vent tube very close to the tank. The vent tube is the blue pipe. I snipped the fill tube as well and it wont hurt to do so.

to this

Now to put it back together.

Connect the fuel level sender!! It is a PITA to connect it after you have put the bed back on. :doh:

Thread the fuel pickup back onto the tank. I am not going to lie, I had a helluva time getting the threads started.

Slowly replace the bed onto the truck. Be sure that it is aligned with the bolt holes and also with the truck cab.

Bolt the fill tube back to the bed and reconnect the running lights at that connector.

That is it. very simple process if you have the right tools. While the bed is off it would be the perfect time to clean the undercarriage. Enjoy your extra fuel and range of driving!

A big Thank You to MikeWhit.

Hmm, looks like they got rid of the darn mixing chamber thingy from the factory. So they can learn from their mistakes!
