My brothers truck has a delta of about 10-20+ degrees. I've been told that a greater than 10* means the oil cooler is plugged and the EGR is the next victim. Now he is under the impression that up to about 17* is ok.

This brings me to a question. Is there a delta at which it is definitive death of the oil cooler?

Thanks guys

People generally say 15* is the cutoff. I personally see 8-12* with mine but then again I am running a crew cab long bed dually with 4.10s so at 65 I'm turning more rpm then a lot of others, if I slow er down to 55-60 it gets down to 5-8*

When he slows down does his oil temp come down quickly or does it stay up for a lot longer then the coolant temp?

Thank you for the speedy reply, but no it does not come down quickly. I have noticed that since I have done the coolant swap to ELC, with all the flushing necessary, my EOT runs higher than before.

When pulling my 26' toyhauler at around 10k during out Central Valley heat my EOT will rise all the way up to 242°. However, the ECT will rise to 220° and the fan will kick in reducing back down to 212°.

Current Ford spec is 15 but has been up to 30 previously. I wouldnt want to risk chancing the oil cooler to fail. It can render some pretty bad consequences.
