So I am in the process of collecting oil for my wvo setup when I came across this setup.
WVO Filter Setup and 275 Gal + Veg Oil

I am new at this wvo thing and have read all the stickies till I couldn't see anymore. So is this a good buy? Is this a good way to filter the oil for use? I have read that it is better to heat the oil during the filtering process so if I did purchase this setup I would add a hot water heater in the mix.

What are you thoughts? Can i do it cheaper?

Thanks
Sean

I would probably steer clear of pressurized filter bags and it seems priced a little high if the oil is of interest to you. A tote will run you $75-$100 and the oil in the tote if decent quality (230 gals @ $0.50-$0.75 dirty), you're at $200ish. I'm not sure the other stuff he has there is worth the remaining $300.

Most veggers out there will agree that the centrifuge is the way to go, spinner type or gravity type, they both have their pros and cons but are superior to any kind of media filter scenario. I have an oc-50 spinner style CF and it has worked very well for 2000gals polished, but pumps and motors are a pain with these setups in the beginning.

Gravity feeds seem to be less prone to issues since there is no pressure (or heat in some cases) involved. 2 gpm vs 5-7 gph, when a leak happens I'd rather have the gravity drip. I'm never far from my setup when I'm spinning a batch, 35 gallons at 80psi at 190deg and 2gpm :tard:

That said, your Q was about doing it CHEAPER and the only way to do that is a good heat and settle process, with winter coming this is really tough unless you have a large heated garage. In the summer it's a different story as the Colorado sun will get the oil up to 130deg F during the day.

Where are you in CO?
