Ive been looking to get my first truck and am wanting a 7.3l crew so I can throw in a DF veggiestroke in it. I really need something besides my 01 Hyundai Sonata to pull my boat or my 4X8 trailer before I melt my tranny.

This is about $10k less than the trucks Ive been looking at and The Warden couldn't complain about the price

2000 Ford Excursion Limited Turbo Diesel $5500 OBO
4x4,
leather seating,
AM/FM/Cassette/CD
LCD TV & VCR,
third row seating,
rear A/C, rear audio controls.
Middle row split bench seating.
it is a high mileage vehicle with around 335,000 miles.

The interior and exterior still look good,
but will need a new muffler, tires, and possibly
power steering pump. Also, the A/C needs some work as well

One of the batteries is new.

So with out seeing it and if everything else is working fine, should I look more into it? or are there big red flags.

I know thats a lot of miles for a 2000

Why do you think it will need a power steering pump? Check into the trans, check the airbox lid. Plan on putting another battery in, should replace both at the same time. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

Seller emailed me some more Info
""Have replaced the oil pump, the front drive shaft, and the trip computer. Left front wheel bearings have also been replaced.""

Do the drive shafts go out often on these?? Or is that a sign it was heavly off roaded??

my first guess is the shaft just wore out, but posibly due to abuse...

i saw this Excursion as well. wish i had the cash, id go take a look at it, looks nice. but for a psd, take it to a trusted mechanic, have the tranny checked, find out what it will take to fix the A/C, and do a compression test. that should cover you pretty well. be sure to hold funds back to replace things like glow plugs, glow relay, fluids, air filter or filter box, etc.

the guy said it needs a new muffler. IMO - straight pipe that baby!

One problem is I dont have any trusted mechanics. I do most of my work myself. The only thing I have others do is mount and balance tires and alingment. Hell been screwed by every body shop Ive been to in 12 years.

I didn't either. haha I just bought a 2000 F250 with 208k miles. Just look for excessive blow by and if the tranny shifts good, that was my main concerns from talking with my diesel buddies.
Mine didn't have any blow-by and shifted good and ran/runs great, I really like it!
If you buy it, go get the oil changed at a reputable Ford dealer and they will do a once over on it or ask to look at specifics you're worried about.
Or heck do it before if you're not comfortable. If it's been taken car of, that motor should be good for double what the mileage is now.
There's a guy around here with over 600k miles.
And to my understanding the 00' 7.3 has the forged rods as opposed to powder metal rods of the other 7.3's.

My 3cents.
