i'm a damsel in distress and need help. i've been trying to fix my truck myself since i got screwed so many times by multiple mechanics. problem with truck. last July was driving and truck shut off. lost power steering and brakes. TG i didn't hit anyone. sat in mechanics lot for 4 months before he worked on it. he changed the IPR sensor and another sensor-not sure which one it was. he also told me there were numerous wires that were bare on the engine wire harness and he poured black rubbery stuff on the wires. he told me it was fixed and ran perfect. went to start it at his garage and wouldn't start. once started took it on a test drive. had no power, surging/lunging. still he claims it was running great. took truck home and started watching dieseltechRon videos but i have no test equipemtent to do any real troubleshooting.I found MAP sensor line blown, EBP sensor totally clogged, oil pressure sensor connector broken, oil temp sensor broken, changed out FICM to be on the safe side as well since mechanic only changed "one board" in FICM. so i ordered OEM parts and changed everything myself including the ICP sensor and the EBP tube. once i changed out everything still not running up to par. i disconnected the ICP sensor and attempted to start truck-would not start but reconnected it and it started with engine lite illuminated but went out after several miles. so this leads me to believe i have a wiring issue in the engine harness? if anyone has anymore suggestions it would be much appreciated. thank you!

1. Order an OBDII dongle (bluetooth for android or wireless for IOS)
BAFX Products® - Wireless Bluetooth OBD2 Reader / Scanner for Android Devices
WiFi OBDII Reader / Scanner for iOS Devices (bafxpro.com)

2. Download the FORSCAN LITE APP on your phone or download the FORSCAN program for your laptop/tablet.
FORScan Home

3. Plug the OBDII dongle in the OBDII port and pair it with your device. See setup information using the links here:
FORScan documentation

4. Pull all stored DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) & post them on this thread.

5. Setup your screen inside the program with the following truck parameters for us to see. Need to see KOEO (key on engine off) and during cranking when it won't start:
ICP
ICPvoltage
IPR%
FICM MPower
FICM LPower
FICM sync
CAM/CRANK sync (aka sync)
Fuel Pulse Width (aka Injector Pulse Width)
RPM
VRef Voltage

Once we have this real-time info, we can help you more. Gotta be able to see what the truck is doing (or NOT doing) to be able to point you in the right direction.

While you're waiting on your parts, read this to familiarize yourself with the truck and how it works:

Also, what's your location? Someone might be able to point you to a good shop.

thank you for the information. it'll be a little bit before i can get the scanning device and work on the truck-i'm old and slow. i forgot to mention my truck was bullet proof before i bought it. it has an Edge module installed.i also pulled the egr value and replaced the o rings bc they were blown. i also cleaned the egr value bc it was loaded with carbon. i did notice that the egr sensor is connected even though it's supposed to be "deleted". i'm a little confused by this. I also changed both fuel filters-ford filters. i live in north west new jersey-sussex county. thank you again for your help.

Order from the BAFX website, they usually ship pretty quick
ForScan is a download -- you do not need to get the license

Since the truck is "deleted" there is no need for the EGR valve seals -- only reason is to plug the hole and needs connected to the electrical

That "liquid tape" stuff can be OK, but it usually does not cover the bare wires very well, unless you apply multiple coats
the '04 had several harness wear spots -- one is where the harness crosses in front of the turbo
bare wires at the connectors is common -- they used various insulation, some would turn to goo and others would get powdery and fall off

thank you for your reply. i did notice a lot of worn spots on the harness and checked for bare wires. i re-routed the wires and tie-wrapped them so they would not rub on anything. i do have a funny feeling it is a wire problem. i did order a pigtail for the icp sensor from accurate diesel and should be here in a few days. almost all the connectors are bad and broken on the engine. but i'm determined to fix it myself. thank you again.

Sussex county - it's nice up there.

I second Heavy_GD's recommendation to add pictures around the engine compartment. That can provide a lot of help when people are trying to figure out what you have in front of you, even with Forscan.

I would cross that shop off any list of places to go. Liquid tape is not how you repair wires - not at all!

Keith, Ford_Doctor, may have insights into local places you could take the truck if you have to, and, of course, there is his Ford dealership in, I believe, Morrisville. However, screwing with an engine harness is a labor-intensive job.
