okay i have the valve covers off, Meow the Haynes manual says there is a fuel drain port that needs to be drained in the back side of the head.

1. how did you all who have done this get to the drain port.

2. Is it totally nesissary? to drain the fuel port?

some people will say absolutly and some will say no...... I have always been told that there is no reason to drain neither the fuel or oil rails....

Drain the oil rails with the 2 plugs BEFORE removing the injector... this will mean almost NO oil will get into the cylinders, which means less time cranking the motor to purge the cylinders later, which means less likely to hydrolock the motor, and also easier on your batteries and starter, and also a TON LESS MESSY! It takes all of 5 min to remove these plugs... why wouldn't anyone do it???? LOL

I couldn't get to the rear one so I couldn't take it out either I did remove oil rail drain plugs. The safest way to avoid any oil or fuel in cylinders is to remove glow plugs AFTER installing injectors and turning engine over to purge oil or fuel out of cylinders, make sure you have the valve covers on (loose) to keep oil from spraying all over.

The safest way to avoid any oil or fuel in cylinders is to remove glow plugs AFTER installing injectors and turning engine over to purge oil or fuel out of cylinders, make sure you have the valve covers on (loose) to keep oil from spraying all over.

Remove the oil deflector retaining screws and the outboard retaining bolts, push the hold down up and pry (Gently) on it becareful not to damage wiring harness and they will pop right up.

That whole bumping the engine over is old school. Use a mity-vac and suck the fluid out of the cylinders. I have never been a fan of the other method. I usually don't even drain the rails, too much time. It takes 3-4 minutes to suck out the cylinders so why wait to drain the rails and loose a rail plug.
