Okay, I am thinking about doing some more mods to my truck. I will be doing head studs within the next couple of months. The only exterior mods I want to do are 08 badges, 08 mirrors, 08 tailgate. I do not want to anything interior.

So all that leaves is under the hood. My current mods are listed in my signature, what would you suggest doing next? I am looking for things that will make my truck faster but keep it as reliable as possible. Any input is appreciated.

That explains what the Fluidampr is for, it basically reduces the harmonic vibrations that the combustion chamber gives off, which in turn lengthens the life of your engine, esp the crank shaft.

After you get the headstuds done nitrous is a pretty easy way to knock about a second off your et.

What about an upgraded turbo? Which one would be best?

I have an Excel spreadsheet with at least a dozen worksheets on all the mods you can do on your truck. Each worksheet contains descriptions of multiple mods and also contains many links describing how to do the mod, the benefits, and some links on where to buy them.

More air and along with bigger injectors equal more power. Bigger turbo will also lower egt's and exhaust back pressure. The biggest benefit with going with a fixed geometric turbo is that it has fewer parts to break down on you.

Turbo itself:
Direct bolt on replacement to the factory turbos only needing it's own seperate pedestal. Much lighter unit as it does not have the VGT setup, much easier to drop in then a factory one.
Pedestal itself:
With Matt's turbo unit(Spartan Diesel Tech.) the pedestal is custom made to be an oil drain for the turbo as well with a drain pipe welded on to drain the oil back into the main high pressure oil system.
Install:
Couple of notes for this particular install, may not apply in later ones, but worth making sure. First off the flange that connects the pedestal to the turbo itself may have to be hit with a belt sander to make sure if it's totally flat or not. The bolts that hold the turbo to the pedestal should also have nuts to prevent turbo movement and cause an oil leak. Also on the oil leak train of thought, double gasket the flange to the turbo as well as the holes were a little out of shape compared to each other. Other then that it was an easy factory to aftermarket swap.
Road Test:
For general street use- It is still a very streetable turbo, however lag is very considerable compared to even the 03 turbos versus the later turbos.
Advice would be to get as small of a housing as you can if you use the turbo for general street use or for towing.
If looking for maximum horsepower gains get a bigger turbo housing but the bigger the housing the more the lag.
EGTs are about 200 degrees cooler versus stock turbo at cruising speeds.
Will produce quite a bit of smoke until it boost hits about 9 psi and then it will start clearing out from the exhaust.
Once going very easy to build boost quicker then egts raise.
For Towing use:
Towing or just having a general load on the engine is where the turbo shines. No surging, however that depends on the particular tuning that you have.
Going up at least 3% grade hills, the turbo is able to hold at 1100 degrees on the egt and stay.
A stock turbo would still get hotter unless you were to let off the throttle.
Only negative is that you don't have the ability to have extra braking beyond that of the engine braking you get from tow/haul mode.
Using the turbo as a ""jake brake"" thru tuning isn't possible, because there is no VGT on this turbo you have to go to an exhaust brake."

Mark, thanks for emailing me the spreadsheets! I can tell you have spent a lot of time putting it together and it came out great. There is a lot of great info in there, anybody looking for some nice info on 6 liters contact bismic!

Industrial Injection makes a nice turbo for the 6.0 another member installed one and loves it and the Water and Methanol would be another good mod helped mine a good bit and cooler EGT's and help clear the smoke up to
