Latest edition of Diesel Power. Pic of a DRW '11 super duty on the front.
Pages 128-129. They have done a write up of The AeroForce Technology Interceptor gauge/diagnostic scanner.
Now I know there are guys that swear by the "AE" scanner but for me I don't want to pay that much and I like the ease of use and the ability to monitor engine functions while driving that the Interceptor claims to offer.
According to our friends over there in Diesel Power Mag this little gauge/scanner does it all.
ICP pressure
IPR duty cycle
Injector pulse
Boost (with the sensor kit)
Engine oil temp
Coolant temp (with temp sensor kit)
EGT (with theromocouple amplifier)
Fuel supply pressure (with pressure sensor kit)
Oil pressure (with pressure sensor kit)
system voltage
I am copying most of this this right from DP mag
They say tests you can run include:
Buzz test!!
Cylinder contribution test
record function to log data
quarter mile times, 0-60 times, etc
Prices are around $280 dollars, (ive heard $260) including everything needed for install. It plugs right into your OBD port. But the boost sensor kit is separate. Also you will have to tap into a key-on power source. And I'm sure we could figure out ways to hook everything we wanted monitored to the Interceptor without having to buy all new pressure sensors. :thumb:
It also mounts right into your existing gauge pod. For me I would probably just buy a single pod and install this and be done with it.
I know this thing probably doesn't do everything AE does but to me it seems nice and easy to finally get all the info I need right in front of me at all times.
Check out the article it has some good pictures of some of the gauge functions. I wish I could find the article online but it doesn't look like its available yet.
I like that parameters can be monitered two at a time. I could be looking at whats going on with both the ICP and the IPR both at the same time.
It would make it easier to track down rough running 7.3s. Bad uvch, electrical issues, IDM issues. It can help you track down to which cylinder or injector is throwing a code.
ANYWAY. What do you guys think? Is this another Diesel Power sponsered product that isnt worth it? (all the canned tunes they advertise :doh: )
Ive been looking for gauges for a while and because I have a manual trans I do not really need a temp gauge for it. So the Interceptor hooked up to a boost sensor (plugged into the AIH port) along with a probe or thermocoupler for EGT's, and at the same time being able to monitor all the critical functions of my truck....I am liking how that sounds. And later down the road I would add oil and fuel pressure sensors so I can really know how my truck is feeling.
