Hello, I have possibly a dumb question about the hydra chip I just installed. The chip was tuned by Brian Jelich for 160/30% injectors. Right now my stock injectors are still in. I wanted to start the truck before replacing the injectors to make sure the chip & PCM were working correctly.

When I turned the key on, the chip was on the 02 setting which is high idle.

With the key on/engine off, I put the chip to 00 which should be the bypass (stock) mode. I chose this since I still have the stock injectors in

The truck started right up but immediately went into high idle with the screen reading 00. I bumped it up to 01 (daily driver) and then the truck idled normally. I then bumped it back down to 00 and the truck continued to idle normally

Why did it high idle when I started it in the 00 setting? And why did the truck idle smoothly/normally in the 01 setting if the chip is tuned for larger single shots and I still have the stock injectors in?

Yes... Maybe you should have explained that differently. Key on engine running... because the key in the on position is the same as the key in the run position after starting the engine. Just trying to be helpful here.

Nah - it's cool - you were being helpful here. I was just pointing out that switching on the fly is the 'run' position and it probably came across as being a smarta$$.

Guess I should have put one of these...

i got you. By the way hydras are legit. I wish I bought one for my truck instead of the TS. My bus has the hydra now.

Yeah I’m happy with it so far, I love being able to flash it in the truck. The hydra flash software is super easy to use. If you ever get new injectors, buy a hydra. Brian Jelich emailed me custom tunes with my injector purchase for free. So I basically spent $300 for a hydra with really good custom tunes. (Normally $525)

It would have been at least $200 to reflash my TS, along with the extra headache of sending it out/taking it in and out

Another question (don’t want to start a separate thread for a simple question)

I changed my oil (rotella T6) about 600 miles before I did the injectors.

I cranked the truck with the glow plugs out to clean out the cylinders, I did not vacuum any oil/fuel out

Would you guys be worried about whatever little fuel is in crankcase thinning out the oil? I’d hate to change the oil again since I just did it recently

Personally I feel you are good. Drive your truck and enjoy the injector/tune combo
