Greetings gentlemen,

3 of my 4 window motors (got a Crew Cab) died on me over the past year and I need to replace them.
I am wondering whether there is anything special about the job or whether it is the same as other cars that I've done.
If anybody has maybe a link to instructions, I would certainly appreciate that.

Thank you in advance.

To get the motors out (at least with the rear doors), you can drill holes in the inner door sheet metal in "strategic" spots that will allow the removal of the motor securing screws without having to remove the regulator and glass. Supposedly there are dimples in the sheet metal where these would be drilled, but I didn't see any. I was able to get close enough anyway. Once the motor is out, you can check the "gears" to make sure the plastics "dogs" haven't just disintegrated (which is a common problem) while the motor itself is still good. You can get replacement dogs in the HELP! section at most autoparts places for I think about $8. Some guys have used 5/16" nuts instead. Hope that helps. Cheers!

Hi Patrick,

thank you for the info. That sounds just like how I had to do it on my old Z28.
Would you happen to have a template that I could print out and put on the door to know where to drill? I got lucky that I found such template for my Z28 back then.

I know the 3 window motors are completely dead. Switches work, power gets to the motor but the motor itself won't budge. And I know that my driver side window motor is fine but the friction clutch disintegrated so I will have to replace that one, for sure.

Thanks again
Lou

Sorry, I don't have a template. Look to see whether you might have the dimple's. I just ended up using whatever means necessary to see the motor screws and then guessed on where to drill. wasn't really that bad. IIRC, there were 3 screws per motor (???). Cheers!
