My turbo was spitting some oil so I pulled it for a rebuild. Upon cracking it open I found a pretty extreme carbon build-up. See pics below. Is this normal, or is there another issue I need to look into?

Truck: 2006 6.0 PS studded and deleted, not chipped, 360k kms.

Looks normal to me. Assuming that turbo hasn't been removed for a long time as well. Check your unison ring for cracks though. And make sure the VGT slider thing doesn't have a lot of wear on it.
Thanks for the reply. No cracks although the oval shaped slot has some wear so I’ll be replacing. There doesn’t seem to be a ton of play in the turbine but it’s definitely spitting oil so I’m going to throw a rebuild kit at it regardless.

That much soot build up usually means a lot of idle time -- run it or shut it off, dont idle

More skinny pedal! Gotta burn that crud off!

Mine was the exact same way when I acquired it. Make sure to mash it once in a while.
