My first post. Thanks for such a great site. I've been searching for a couple of days now and haven't found a great answer to my situation. Just to add, I am generally not hard on the truck. Only when performing the transmission relearn.

The other day I noticed a loss of power going through the gears on the 275EL tune. Noticed the same in the 275LL tune. I did the proper transmission relearn when I changed tunes so I don't think it is the transmission. I rolled on the throttle 60-75% to do a pass. Letting off, I heard a lot of back pressure louder than normal. Thought it was the dreaded "puke". I also noticed some blue/white smoke (not black) a few times after this while hard on the throttle, but don't see any coolant spill in the engine bay nor under the truck and my coolant level has not dropped as of yet. I dropped down to the 175EL tune and the EGR is operating perfectly fully open to fully closed. On this tune I also noticed some light colored smoke but only on 3/4 throttle and I'm reluctant to push it further before researching some more. I'm hoping this topic will lead to a "what to look for" for those down the road.

So here are my questions that I can't find answers to for our trucks....

1. How do you tell if your egr is cooked?

2. How do you tell your Head gasket is cooked or head cracked?

3. How do you tell egr problem vs head gasket problem?

4. Are there parameters on Dashdaq that would help to keep an eye on?

I have thought about taking an oil sample and sending it off to be tested. Would this be the best indicator of either problem(other than large plumes of white smoke)? I'm just about to put the truck back to stock and send it off to the dealer but Im reluctant to think they will find a problem yet.

1- my understanding ...if your truck sits overnight and when you crank in the morning you'll see a puff of white smoke from the exhaust ...this being the coolant leaked into the cylinders from a ruptured egr cooler.

2-get a combustion gas leak detection kit from Napa...50$.

3- rig up a pressure gauge @ watch Degas bottle pressures under acceleration.

4- I use insight so I'm not sure
