Any body in hawaii that know about state inspections and stuff. I'm thinking about getting stationed at pearl harbor, but I'm rollin' coal on my 6.4. If I decide to get stationed there I don't want to have to deal with a bunch of b/s because of some black smoke. Just trying to get a heads up before I start making big decisions. thanks!

Tks for your service, I assume your in the Navy. I was in the Navy stationed at Camp Smith and lived in Pearl Harbor housing. I really don't remember anything about inspections, not sure I ever had one there but, not sure if anything has changed.

Yes I'm in the Navy. I'm a Machinest Mate. Trying to get orders to a destroyer or cruiser in Pearl Harbor. I know that states are different, and right now I'm in Texas, so I have Texas plates. Texas doesn't do emmisions test. I think they are supposed to visually inspect, but they didn't say anything last time I had it done. Any who, I'm still a resident of Oklahoma, so I suppose if need be I'll just re-register there before i go to Hawaii if I go.

How long were you stationed there. Did you like Hawaii? A lot of the other guys that have been there for a port call say that they wouldn't want to live there, and that I'd get island fever. I love fishing and the out doors though so I'm thinking I"m just going to take my chances and go.. it's only for 3 years... and it seems like every year flies by faster than the previous year.

I was stationed there for a little over three years and if you like fishing you will love Hawaii. We fished all the time either on Hickam AFB or at Hospital Point on Pearl and caught some serious fish. Hospital Point is on the entrance to PH and we caught lots of little hammer head sharks there. My family and I liked Hawaii, great beaches and lots to do.

thats good to hear. my girlfriend is actually a fishing guide on the side, down here in Corpus Christi, so I'm sure she would like it as well... honestly I just want some where new, and some where with clean and clear water...lol

well hopefully somebody knows something about the emissions test and stuff for that area... guess I'll continue to research for now.

After Hawaii I went to Adak, Ak and you talking bout fishing it was awesome. MWR had it's own small boat and a lottery to go Halibut fishing and that was so much fun. Biggest Halibut I caught was only 52lbs but we always caught a lot bigger ones. Then there is the salmon fishing, now that is fun. Good luck in the Navy.

I was stationed there as a torpedo man on the USS Charlotte for 3 years, left at the end of 2010.
Anybody that said they didn't like the place hated being outside. If you like the outdoors and go on some serious hikes, open to try LOTS of new food and can be open about a new type of life you should love it. I was in a small car club with all locals, it was amazing. I was a extended family and they would always watch your back, just don't do them wrong.
State inspections SUCK!! I had a few people I could pay to give me a bogus one and get by but a lot of that stuff stopped.
I still have quite a few connections to the island if you need some questions answered.

ya I think I'll enjoy my time there. I'm gonna miss hunting and stuff though, but other then that I think I'll like it there... I haven't picked orders yet, just kinda researching around. I'll keep you in mind just incase I do get some questions. appreciate it.

No random inspections as far as I know, I daily drive my 6.4 try not to lay the coal down to often lol nobody really bothers down here, but safety checks I'm not to sure if they smog test your vehicle here.
