I am shopping around for my first truck...

I am looking at the F250s...PS diesel...heard 7.3L were the best? I have never owned a diesel but I seem to be drawn to them.

Living in MN with our cold winters is it OK to use a diesel as an everyday driver and not just for towing or would I be better off sticking with gas?

I also figure with the price I want to spend (under $15K) I will be purchasing a truck with higher miles and I know with proper care diesels can last a lot longer than gas...torn between the two at this point.

I would be using the truck as an everyday driver (work is about 25 miles from home) and hauling 3-horse trailer, car trailer etc. Nothing too big but I would like to have the option to take on large loads if necessary.

Looking for any and all advice...where to get started, things to look out for...dealers to stay away from...etc.

Thanks!

just dont make a bunch of short trips. engines need to warm up before there shut down. diesels take alot longer then gassers to get up to operating temps. plug it in if you dont have heated storage. or just get a gasser, for 15k you could get a pretty nice gas pickup. and yes the 7.3 is good but their value has sky rocketed lately. my dad just traded in his beat up 2001 7.3 lariat with 180k on it for 10k

Gasser will be better for short trips, or don't care about towing power/efficiency. With that 25 mile trip it shouldn't be too bad, I drive 35 miles each way. Definitely let her warm up, with proper maintenance the 6.0L is a great engine, the 7.3L can be neglected. So if you are anal about maintenance, get a 6.0L, if you sluff it off, go with a 7.3L. I love my 6.0L, and I loved my bronco with 351W but i hated that when I towed anything i got about 7ish mpg.
