the dash one is basically a dummy light... the standard gauges to get on a powerstroke is boost, pyro and trans temp...

what is your budget? gauge kits go from anywhere from the low 200's all the way to over 600...

The dash gauge for trans temp doesn't move until after you've already toasted your trans. It will be at operating temp 5 seconds after I start the truck after sitting all night. I'd get a gauge just to be safe.
