My 01, after starting perfectly, started hesitating and running ruff. It finally quit on me. It was low on fuel but not out. Truck = 240000 miles. Never any major mechanical problems except minor: alt, belts, tensioner, starter and such things.
This truck when started and run cold has lately shown "hesitation" surging" until it warms up and then it runs perfectly. Yesterday, after leaving home in the morning, it started to miss and act like it was running out of fuel. It finally quit. Towed it home. Fuel filter was not full of fuel. Fuel pump would run about 30 secs and shut down with filter removed.
I removed the fuel pump and tested it in a stand, pumping diesel, and it would run for hours, even with me restricting the output with pliers until the outlet hose from the pump would spray.
Installed the pump would shut down after a short time but testing it would run and build pressure. I don't have the ability to measure output pressure but it seems like a LOT. Compared to air pressure from a compressor.
Is there any way to test this pump for amps drawn or ohms?
Any advice is welcomed.
Oeilley wants 152$ for a replacement. Maybe that what I need!
Any suggestions?

Typically my experience with the guys at local part stores (or a good haynes manual) will give you values for properly functioning electrical components. You can check these values with a multimeter. Your fuel system is very sensitive to pressure changes as well as your HPOP. One of the most important tools for the diesel DIYer is a fuel pressure guage. You dont have any wiggle room with fuel pressure so even if it is a little bit low ( you cant test this w/ pliers) you will have severe functionality issues. The things I would like to know about your specific problem would be fuel pressure, injector resistance, and voltage conditions at your batteries. check your batteries and fuel pressure at the bowl first.

hope this helps and good luck!!
