Ok, bout had a panic attack this morning. Got off work, was about halfway home, truck dies. The thing ran rough as heck, had no balls. I was afraid it was cps, or injectors!!! :'( But I called up the dealership I bought it from, explained my situation. ( Started running rough, died, wouldnt start, only had an 8th of a tank left) right off the bat, guy says the fuel gauges on 7.3s can be off sometimes, and if I put fuel in it, it should run just fine. So I had it towed to my local Shell, filled 'er up and guess what. FIRED RIGHT UP. Is this normal? I never heard of a gauge problem like that, is it all 7.3s or is this guy feeding me a line of bull?

It blew white smoke when it started up with low fuel btw, is that a sign of other problems? It was fine after I filled up.

How many gallons were you able to put in? Short bed or long bed? Could be the mixing chamber sucking air.
A little under 22. I've got a short bed crew cab. Is the mixing chamber thing a major problem?

My excursion will read 50 miles to empty and run out and will still read an eighth of a tank.one of the techs here said part of the pickup in our excursions falls off in the tank and can't pick it all up.may be the same problem on your truck.

The problem usually isn't with the gauge itself, it is with the fuel pick up. As already said the Hutch mod will cure this. I have had mine down to where it said I had 6 miles to go until empty. I don't normally let it drop below 1/4 of a tank.
