So I went to go replace my fuel filter today on my 2000 7.3L and the 15 minute job turned into an hour and a half failure. After taking off the cover you see the filter with a 1" hex drive plastic nut on top which unscrews the whole filter. Who ever last replaced it must have torqued it to 150 ft/lbs because no matter what I used I could not loosen this filter. :dunno:

Any ideas at all would be very helpful.

Thanks

Last option is a hammer and chisel.

I tried using a filter wrench but there isn't anywhere to get some good grip on the housing.

And i'm about to take a sledge hammer to it, this is ridiculous

Your going to need a new cap so it's hammer and chisel time. You can use a sharp screw drive also. Make a notch by hitting square towards the center then turn the chisel at about 45* and hit it so it spins off
