my 99 model 7.3 has been a good truck. I have a problem with the gasket BLOWING out between the screw on black cap and the filter base. This happened about a month ago on it, thought I had it fixed, Going down the road this morning and fuel went everywhere!! I could unscrew the cap and put the gasket back on and it would not leak, As soon as you shut the engine off and started it back, gasket would blow out again! I wonder if my filter base has gotten warped or something. Any body have a similar problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen this from people over tightening the cap. Get a new cap from Ford and I believe problem solved. Also use a quality filter with a good O ring. I only use WIX filters from Napa , you may want to check this first.

I believe the o-ring can be put on upside down too and this will not let it seal properly. Maybe yours is on wrong? If so just flip it over, easy fix.
