When my 2008 F350 4x4 was on a lift yesterday I noticed that both front wheels were very hard to rotate as though the calipers were binding. The diff was disengaged and axles turned freely. When I arrived home it was confirmed as both rotors were very hot. The question, is this something that is typical of this vintage truck with 25k miles?

take the pads off and clean and grease the slides on the calipers its normally a cheap easy fix.

either the sliders or the calipers ..Try the lube( they sell it in those little packs at most parts store's) but when you have the caliper off look at the pistons for cracking

The heated rotors could be the fact that the pads are in constant contact with the rotor. Now, your very hot and my very hot may differ, I'd compare them to how hot the rear rotors are.

When I changed my ball joints, the disc backing plates went into the scrap pile. Those backing plates are good for two things, collecting small rocks to grind up the rotors when I'm off road, and holding in heat. Besides that, I can inspect the inside of my rotors at a glance now.

Thanks for the input. Took to the dealer and they replaced the calipers under warranty. Said they had some problems with them on other trucks!
