My gear selector was off by one gear on my 2004 f250 6.0
After checking the two t27 bolts I looked at the cable adjustor, sure enough the bracket for it was broken. I zip tied the top of it as the anchor and pulled the anchor and the bottom piece together with another tie. Shift selector is perfect now and can still scroll the wheel to adjust the cable. Just thought I'd show this off to save you from buying a $10 part and waiting a few days to get it in.

Its location is under the panel that covers the fuse box and steering column.
