A defective switch that could cause brake lights, tail lights and turn signals to fail is responsible for the latest recall on Ford trucks and SUVs. “The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today on its website that the recall affects certain 2004 through 2011 Ranger pickups, 2002 through 2005 Excursion SUVs, and 2002 through 2007 F-250, 350, 450 and 550 trucks,” writes The Detroit News.

The recall affects trucks and SUVs that received the switch during assembly, but also may affect vehicles that had it installed as a replacement part. “About 20,450 trucks in the U.S. are affected, plus Ford is recalling more than 6,000 of the switches that were sent to dealers as replacement parts,” says Forbes. “Ford says it knows of no accidents or injuries caused by the problem.”

NHTSA says that a subcomponent of the switch could deform, potentially causing the failure and increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the defective switch free of charge, and the recall is expected to begin in the middle of August. If you think your Ford truck or SUV is affected, you can call the
