I have a 01' F350 so far I have an AFE stage II intake, and 4" MBRP turbo back exhaust. The next thing I my performance mod list was gauges and a chip from T.W. Tune wise I was going to go with economy, tow, daily, and high idle. Nothing extreme. My tranny has about 70-80k on it (engine 160k), should I invest in a trans cooler or torque/stall converter before chiping it? I do NOT haul any sort of trailer, no 5th wheel, etc. Just daily driving, looking for just a little bit more power. As for the gauges I notice a big difference in price from mechanical to electric. I was going to go with mechanical (trans temp, EGT's, boost) any reason I should not? Thanks in advance for the all the suggestions/help.

No need for an added cooler. Too cold is actually detrimental, and adding power wont raise your temps, but I like that you are thinking about protecting your trans BEFORE getting tunes. If you want to invest that cooler money in your trans, go ahead and get a BTS valve body or add on filter. Either would benefit your transmission greatly.

As for the gauges, I prefer electronic. It's a lot less messy when/if something breaks. I have the ISSPRO EV2 gauges. Never had a problem.

No point in an "economy" tune. Just leave it in the hot setting; 90% of people get better mileage there anyways.

I'd do stock, high idle, heavy tow (regular tow is for people w/ injectors and stuff), and a hot tune.

Really, added power won't raise temps? Please tell my trans that after it has seen added power.

Op, look into either a 6.0 cooler or a tru cool 40k cooler and either a BTS or john wood valve body. Even on a stock tranny they will make a difference and help it live.

Adding power doesnt raise temps. USING power does. Good tuners leave the truck pretty stock-ish on the low end so that you dont do things like burn up transmissions.

Like i said please explain how added power doesn't raise temps to my tranny... What do you think causes a trans temp to rise, ok now think why trannys with added power die sooner. The clutches slip more with added power causing heat. Trans clutches that are designed for 250hp aren't going to work well at higher numbers. And yes I've monitored it, as you add power it does get warmer.
