I have an 08 job1 truck with the external filter. Looking to do a trans flush and was reading up on removing the external filter all together. My question is, am i able to get the newer pan, internal filter, and lines, and be able to install them? Or am is replacing the lines more difficult then it seems? From looking at it, it seems particularly easy, but from reading online, seems guys are just leaving the external filter, but having it hollow. Thanks in advance! :ford:

I was actually about to service my trans in the next week or so. I was going to ditch that external factory filter and cut the lines and replace it with rubber trans line and then add a new spin on filter in line with the transmission cooler.

From my research it can be done pretty cheap too. Heres the two main parts you need,


Trans-Dapt #1028 filter base

Fleetguard LF3313 filter.

Then add whatever fittings you need depending on where you want to put this filter. I was going to mount mine on the frame right behind the front bumper for easy access to change out and easy to plumb inline with the transmission cooler.

Wouldn't you be afraid of the rubber lines gettin damaged under the pan?

Not really, I don't really go driving through rough thick brush to worry about sticks or whatever hitting the lines. If you really were concerned, you could find out what the fittings are for that eternal filter and make a new hard line that pretty much bolts right in place of the filter.

would it be bad to put a new external filter on. then get an aftermarket filter like the one on diselsite. assuming the diesel site spin on filter would do a better job at filtration, the new external filter would never really clog up. would that be too much restriction to have both?

Thats the kind of setup i have, ish, its from wagler performance.
