Hi everyone - I hope one of you will have a suggestion for me. I have an 03 F250 (automatic) 6.0L. I'm getting an engine vibration when the transmission shifts into the highest gear and I try to maintain my speed or accelerate. It feels like one or two cylinders are not firing properly causing an in-balance. I also noticed that if I push the "tow / haul" button, and keep the RPMs between 2k and 3k, the vibration is there, but harder to notice. I am not getting any engine failure codes at all. When I got home, I also noticed the truck was leaking some diesel onto the ground. The leaking only seems to happen when the engine is running.

Last, I don't know if this is related or not, but the problem started immediatly after both fuel filters were replaced by a gas station mechanic. (I was away from home and this needed to be done)

Make sure you have motorcraft our racor filters only. If the lower filter is not snugged correctly or the oring was misaligned, you could be sucking air. Check both filters.

Sent from my phone that somebody didn't help me get.

Hi Southend - you must be on to something.... sure enough, fuel is coming out the upper filter at idle speed - i can only assume air would suck in under engine load. The filter that is in the truck now has a Napa part number ..... put on the truck by a chevron service station .... I have located a MotorCraft filter from my local Ford Dealer, so I'll replace this today and post an update - Thanks!!!

Also.... looks like the upper fuel housing is cracked from over tightening ..... I'll have to replace that also...

Those caps will crack if you don't use a socket. Autozone has the sockets. Check this video out on filters.....http://www.dieselfiltersonline.com/ford-6-0-liter-turbo-diesel-truck-filters.aspx
You should replace the lower hfcm fuel filter also.

heavy vibration continues

I replaced both fuel filters with Motorcraft parts. Problem still exists. Is it possible that debris entered an injector when they changed the fuel filters? Again, when in highest gear the engine shakes with a heavy vribration - also the idle is not as smooth as it was. Is there anything else I can check?

Thanks

Of course I started out with the simplest thing first. You need a monitor to watch vitals, and pull codes.....http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/showthread.php?t=259257
It sounds like you may have a bad injector, at least what you have explained so far is what happened when I lost #4.
