I am planning on performing an EGR delete kit install this week. I have been loosing coolant, and can't find where it is going, so I am hoping the EGR delete kit will fix that. I keep hearing I should replace the oil cooler as well, however I ran the truck for about 15 minutes with my tuner on it and the temperatures stayed right around 200 degrees and never got more that about 7 degrees apart. Is it worth purchasing a new oil cooler, or should I be fine?

As far as i have heard just removing the egr you will give you the engine light on unless you replace it,,,as for oil cooler its right under it thats why replace it when in that far,,,its a piece off mind thing and the factory ford cooler sucks...just my 2cents..my truck is in the shop right now having the entire motor pulled and fixed cause of this problem..i lost the head gaskets.

Hold on, hold on. One thing at a time here.

Rinierd, a quick and dirty to see if your egr cooler is leaking is to park the truck slightly nose down overnight and pull the egr valve the next morning. If there's coolant pooled underneath it in the intake manifold then it's leaking. It is also a good indicator that your oil cooler is toast (plugged) because it is upstream with respect to coolant flow.
Have you had any white smoke on startup? Any white residue around the degas bottle cap?
Now, the coolant/oil temp delta test you did sounds light. One way to test is that the truck has to be warmed up thoroughly (20-30 min driving) and tested on flat highway at 65 mph until the oil temp settles. Another way includes some wide open throttle runs, the details of this one I don't recall but you can look it up.
Brownale, messing with the egr cooler or valve on an 05 and newer truck will probably throw a code but not in 03-04 trucks. Sorry about your melted engine but the oil cooler is not junk - something about the coolant or cooling system is junk but the oil cooler does its job well when it isn't clogged up with whatever crap clogs it over time. Do you have gauges or a monitoring device yet?

I have never seen any white smoke. I will try to give it a run again to see if the deltas change. I thought it was kind of strange that everyone says the oil cooler causes the egr cooler to go bad, but right now it doesnt look like I have any issue with oil cooler based on deltas. But I will run it a little harder and see.

As far as the degas bottle, I have not seen any fluid come out of it. There might be a white spec here or there but nothing obvious.
