I finally got my old truck to the dyno. It's a 91 7.3 IDI with ATS aftermarket turbo and 5 speed. I turned up the fuel pressure to the max, and cut off the muffler running a straight pipe.
I pulled 13 lbs of boost.
Horsepower 217.5 at the wheels (about 275 at the crank)
Torque 426.3 at the wheels (about 530 at the crank)

Here's what I figure.
Comparison to stock trucks.........

More power than
1982-1993 GM 6.5

2001-2003 GM Duramax (less HP but more TQ)

1989-2002 Cummins

1994-1998 Powerstroke

About the same as 1998.5-2003 Powerstroke

I don't feel like the red headed step child anymore :woot::woot:

Hey Howard, I saw a Dyno report of one of the Turtle Expedition trucks that they had just put a new IDI 7.3 Factory Turbo in with a 4'' exhaust and the Hypermax air intake like I have and a K&N air filter with some pump tuning. It was in a Power Stroke Registry magazine I have from a few years ago. I may be a little off, but I think it was 227hp and 597lbs of torque. I believe these numbers, because my '94 can out pull my '08 6.4 and most of my 7.3 powerstrokes I have owned! It has twice the low end that any stock 6.0's I have owned had, they had more top end though. I had a '99.5 7.3 that was the pullin'st engine I have ever owned, I kick myself everyday for selling it. I had no idea what these IDI's could do if they were tuned up a little, I am super impressed! I know you have a straight pipe, but what size is it? I have a 3'' down pipe into a 3 1/2'' straight pipe, I am thinking of going to a 4'' to try and get my EGT's down. When I am loaded heavy the long grades push my EGT's right up to the 1200-1250 range and I have to back out of it. Where is your probe? Mine is behind my turbo, so I add 200 degrees to what my gauge says, at least that is what I have heard I am supposed to do, if I am wrong someone please correct me!

I believe your numbers too! I have a 3" downpipe (not squished) and 3" straight pipe. I don't know where the probe is located off the top of my head but my EGT gauge is off by 100 degrees. It always reads 100 degrees when cold. I still think the water/meth injection is the way to go. These guys sell stuff for our trucks including an upgraded injection pump, bigger injectors, propane, and water/meth injection. Read their site on IDI's.

My gauge never drops to zero either! Is this normal? I did not know it meant that it was off. If it sits on 100 degrees when cold does that mean it shows 100 degrees hotter than the temp really is? I have been adding 200 to my readings, but mine sits at 125 when it is dead cold. I wonder if these gauges can be calibrated to be accurate? Maybe a tech can answer my questions!
That site has some cool stuff for the IDI's! I think I could use new injectors and probably a new turbo. The fins look pretty pitted on the turbo and I have a slight miss when it is idling. I guess I should expect these things with an engine that has 295,000 miles on it. Thanks for the good info.!

Sorry for the thread-jacking but what exactly does water/meth injection do. I'm a bit of a noob and im looking to get some performance out of my 93 factory turbo in the future after i fix the rust.
