Hello all,
I have a 97 F-250 Super Cab Long Bed 7.3L, 4x4, E40D trans, with a Banks intercooler, piping, exhaust brake, and Ottomind chip in it. The truck has 285,000 miles on it, it had all the Banks stuff on it when I purchased the truck. Drove it for 11 months with no problem at all. On March 8th 2023, the engine cut all power on my drive home from work. Pulled over and turned the key off, sat for 5 minutes, started it again and the engine went straight to 2500 RPMs. Shut it off, waited another 5 minutes, started it again, and it fired up like normal, drove home, it sat overnight. Left for work the next morning and two miles down the road it started bucking, sputtering, and running like trash, then leveled out and ran fine the next 12 miles to work. pulled codes, got a cam sensor code, knew these things were notorious for cam sensors, installed one, and it ran fine for a few days. Happened again today, March 17 2023, This time it belched a few big clouds of gray smoke, after it belched the gray smoked, it leveled off and ran fine again. Got to work looked at codes and other values like ICP values, IPR values, TPS values, and nothing looked abnormal to me. I did get a P0605 code though. I'm not sure what the next move to make is. The scanner I used was a cheap launch scanner that gave me minimal information, couldn't even do the cylinder contribution test. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I would physically pull the chip and see what happens (don't have the key in the ignition!). Chips or their connections can go bad. Cheers!

Removed the chip from the PCM, started engine and it ran for 2 minutes before it died. After I pulled the chip, the engine sounded way quieter and struggled to stay running for the 2 minute span.

Also, no codes were present.

Oil level good? What's fuel pressure when cranking? Cheers!

Oil level was perfect, there was no fuel pressure when cranking, replaced the fuel pump (came out in one piece), turned the key and it fired up. Ran fine, didn’t die out while it idled for 20 minutes, I’ll test drive it in the morning, snowing pretty heavy right now. Thanks for the help in figuring this out. I’ll post an update after work tomorrow.
