my '08 6.4 (82k miles) needs a new vertical EGR cooler....i'm thinking about just going the EGR delete route instead of replacing it. is it possible to just bolt on the egr delete kit and then go on about my day, heh? do i have buy a tuner to make the EGR delete complete?

thanks. so, i would need a tuner - where can i find one that will enable me to disable the EGR limp mode situation and what should i expect to pay? also, is it necessary to do the DPF delete too? is the EGR delete+tuner+DPF delete a sort of three way dependency?

thanks in advance for the knowledge.

You have several choices. Im running the spartan phalanx tuner, which is one of the more expensive ones. Im happy with it so far, it will take care of dpf and egr. I dont believe there is a dependency but i would determinately delete them both. there is plenty info on why people delete them on this site. One of them being mpg. With only 5" straight pipe air intake and egr delete i got 14.7 combined and 18.8 highway on a long trip.

Make sure they don't emission text where you are. If not, if you delete the EGR you might as well delete the DPF....if you are going to be illegal might as well have all the benefits of a fully deleted truck.

no diesel emissions testing in my county. i'm trying to find the cheapest way to get the truck back to a safe driving state. it's cheaper to do the EGR delete than to replace the whole system. but i am just trying to figure out what i HAVE to do to get driving again. so the DPF delete is not a requirement to getting back on the road?

Well...I am about to pull my coolers tomorrow. They both are in good working order. I will send you the vert one if you want it for 45.00 shipped. That's probably the cheapest fix for the truck. Otherwise you will need to get a delete 150-300 depending, and a tuner that will shut the egr off. 1500+ Just throwin it out there. Otherwise I was going to post them in the classifieds section.

I don't believe you can delete the EGR and keep the DPF. To the best of my knowledge there isn't a tuner out there that does EGR delete with DPF compliant.

^^ This! You can delete the dpf and leave the egr but not the other way around.
