Hello everybody, i picked up a 1999 ford f250 powerstroke for 2400 dollars for my senior project, ill post pictures and tell about everything im doing.

Truck- 1999 Ford F250 7.3L Powerstroke Turbo Diesel

Miles- 338,000 (high but not bad for a 7.3)

Current condition- PERFECT body minus a few dents, Needs headliner
Needed parts to make it inspectable- Front Brake pads and a License plate light

Previous owner totally rebuilt the entire front end so i wont have to worry about ball joints, bearings, etc

Current mods- 4 inch turbo back straight pipe that exits just in front of the rear tire, Quadzilla programmer, Cone filter. (should have it at around 320hp/600tq, not bad for a regular cab 2wd, probably lower due to the need for a rebuild)

NOW, for the plans.... first im gonna rebuild the turbo, (338k theres gotta be some shaft play in it..) Update the interior to a 2008, Update the front end headlights grill etc, 7 Inch miter cut stacks in the bed that dont go over cab level, tool box, Gauge pillar with Trans temp, fuel press, boost, ext temp, different tuner probably bully dog or edge performance Maybe some nicer wheels, remove bed and paint frame.

Current Pictures Below: (ill get more detailed pictures when i pick it up saturday)

ditch the programmer, you need to get a 6 pos chip, DP, PHP, Beans, Swamps theres others but most on here will agree with the ones that are listed. 6637 air filter mod. turbo, i'd get a gt38r and be done with it. its a roller bearing turbo that spools much faster than the stock.
Looks like a good time but if you gonna be changin turbos and injectors you need custom tunes with a ts 6 position chip usually it's cheaper then the other programmers and is better for your truck and for you tearing into the bottom end...."if it ain't broke don't fix it"

But looks like a really fun senior project I'm sure others will chime in soon good look make sure to post lots of pictures

Good point on the if its not broke dont fix it.. Ill do one thing and end up making 10 other things go wrong. Ill just keep the motor stock. I do want another tuner though, i absolutely hate the quadzillas.

yeah i agree with the 6pos chip. I may be able to hunt up a used gt38r somewhere..
What can i do as far as headlights?? these stock things look horrid, can i put a newer models in or should i just go aftermarket projectors?
You could do the 05-07 headlight just takes a little time with a dremel to cut the fiberglass header panel to make them fit just search the exterior forum to find a write up

Oh, and possibly a Southbend dual disk auto clutch, arp head studs, and some 100 horse injectors, maybe a different turbine wheel or faster spooling turbo

Keep in mind i am 17, and doing all the work myself. If you see anything that i am doing wrong or have a different idea, let me know! My dad works all the time so im on my own with this one haha.

Whoa whoa whoa hold the hell up.

Quadzilla is crap, and you are NOT sitting at 320/600 with that thing. Aside from that, they beat up on transmissions. Come to think of it... I didn't even think quadzillas work on our 7.3's

If theres no blowby or excessive oil consumption, your truck doesnt need a rebuild. And I'm fairly certain a 17year old w/ no diesel experience couldn't do a rebuild even if he wanted to.

Next, dont ASSUME theres shaft play.. pull the damn intake and CHECK FOR IT.

What kind of "cone" filter? There are ZERO cone filters for these trucks that I know of that aren't dangerous, or are even capable of providing the flow our trucks require.

Next, NO 'tuner' is good for these trucks. They are all ****, run hot tunes, and destroy transmissions.

What is a "dual disk AUTO clutch"??????????

100horse injectors? No such thing.

Different turbine wheel or faster spooling turbo? Your turbo lights @ 1600rpms with stock fueling... you can do a LOT with a stock turbo. More than a 17year old will ever know what to do with.

yeah i agree with the 6pos chip. I may be able to hunt up a used gt38r somewhere..
A gt38r? For what? Those awesome 140cc stock injectors?

You have LOTS of reading up to do before you even touch that truck. Start now.

Hey just cause he's 17 doesnt mean he can't rebuild a motor it's just measuring to rebuild a motor anyone can do it if they have specs and tools to do it give the kid a break instead of just bashin what he said, explain to him what's bad and what's good

He's made it clear he knows nothing about diesels... that makes me inclined to think he cant rebuild a powerstroke.

regardless, I highlighted what areas I think he needs to research more.
Wow 305, way to beat up what ever drive to fix up his truck he might have had... I respect your info, you are normally correct in the facts you post.... but your people skills are lacking.

Dlettie9, post away... let us know what you are doing, what you want to do, and ask our opinions... there are alot of us here, and in alot of ways, 85-305 is right... there's alot of info to absorb about these trucks, so read all you can... some of the things you said you want to do are a huge undertaking, so the more you know about what you want to do, the better you'll be able to do it when the time comes. Good luck kiddo.
I am more familiar with Cummins, thats what ive always worked on. So thats part of my problem. He's completely right though haha. Im selling the quadzilla thats in it, that isnt even suppose to work with our trucks i dont know how the hell thats in there
.... but your people skills are lacking.
.
Yes, I suppose they do...

Thats the spirit... your welcomed to stay as long as you'd like with that attitude :thumb:

I know how easy it is to get excited about something and just run with the first ideas that sound good but like others have said, read as much as you can before you put a bunch of money on anything.

And good luck, we would really like to see your progress once you start tearing into things. We all love pictures!
Yeah i am going to pick it up saturday. I was waiting to get an insurance quote.
needs 12inch stacks
