Im confused to what the benifits are of doing this....My truck is currently tuned and nothing is wrong with the FICM yet
Cold start and cold performance
hmm... good write up... i was going to send mine to power hungry but i might be able to do this.... about how long did it take ya
Hmmm thats good to know. Thanks
It took me ~ 1.5 hours, but that includes taking pics. and closely looking at the board for bad joints.
This needs to be moved to the Tech section.
Could a bad FICM manifest itself by low rpm missing after a cold start? My 03 Excursion starts and runs fine below 35 F with or without using the block heater overnight. But even when the temp needle is halfway up, at 1300-1600 under a light load like cruising to work and going up a slight incline you can feel it miss?
Question on your document. I get 45-48 volts but it's 2-3 seconds after the key is turned. When the key is first turned it registers around 20-22 volts. Normal?
This does not sound normal.
What are your EOT/ECT temps when checking the voltage?

It was in the mid 40's ambient when I was checking this and the truck was cold from sitting overnight. The truck did not want to start which is what directed me to your procedure. I didn't get the audible rapid clicking sound that I accustomed to hearing from the FICM when you turn the key. Once the temps. warm up into the 50's the sound returns.
I would remove the FICM and resolder just to make sure.
I just did this repair this afternoon. Truck started right up after the new solder job. Took it for a ride, refueled, and parked it. Just went to go start it up to go to the gym. Now its missing, surging, bucking, what ever you wanna call it. It sat for about 2 hrs. Temp gauge still showing the block is warm. Truck wont stay running without keeping your foot in it.

Im fed up. Calling the dealer in the am. These motors suck.

Thanks. This was really helpful. The original photo bucket link no longer works.
