Hey guys, replacing my smoked turbo with a gtp38r and I would like to gut the pedestal. I here different ways to do it but I want to do it the right way. I had gutted the exhaust flange and left the actuator in the pedestal about three weeks ago when I had to replace the pedestal o-rings. Well guess what, the actuator started blowing oil and fried the turbo:doh: before I caught it so I want to make sure I have it right this time. I tapped the hole where the actuator rod comes out but I don't know if that is all I need to do.:dunno: Please give any and all advice you have, Thanks in advance.:thumb:

The right way- ebpv delete pedestal.

That being said, tap the hole where the rod comes out of with a pipe tap, teflon the plug and put her in. Open the other end by removing the snap ring, remove guts, re install plate and ring.

Should be all.

for what its worth. When I do a pedestal.

I tap the actuator rod hole to 1/2" NC. then put a bolt and washer through, with silicone under the washer, and then a locking nut and washer on the inside, with a little silicone under that washer as well. It's overkill, but I have NEVER had one leak.

When I delete the butterfly valve in the housing, I do the same type of thing for the open hole, but I actually weld the bolt into place, so that it cannot leak past.

What size pipe tap? You can use a soft plug for the hole in the exhaust right?

Thanks for the responses guys. I had read where a guy shortened the rod on the actuator then put it back in before plugging the hole. He said that if you left the sensor plugged up in the pedestal when it tried to activate it would "open" an oil port which could possibly starve the turbo for oil if the actuator was not in there.:dunno: Should I leave my sensor unplugged?
