I got the 1997 stock 7.3. I only have an intake and gauges on it and I would like to do a 5" tip out 12'' before the rear tire. What do I need to run that? And where can i get the piping? I would like to keep the mufler but knock out the cat :thumb:

Are you looking for 5" pipe or a 5" tip?. If it is pipe it will be kinda tough to find. Check a diesel shop before you purchase the whole system. I dumped mine after the gutted cat, But am running 3.5"

If you are going to do anything you should have a aftermarket 3in downpipe to 4in pipe then out the side with tip. You'll put 4in sooner or later.

I gad the complete exhaust piping done, 3" down pipe, 4" pipe with high flow muffler, 5" tip. I cut the pipe off a few feet past the front of the bed, taking the muffller out. I rmoved the chrome tip from the end of th epipe, and tacked it to th enew "end". Only thing, is I need a turn down tip instead of the straight tip.

i've done a few of them using pieces of the tailpipe and finding the right bend. usually if you get an aftermarket 4" t-back there is enough in there to do what you want.

Then buy a system. DO NOT try and find a down pipe at a RIG shop. Just buy a 4in system. Use the down pipe cat and after cat piece, then sell the rest.
Or if you are like me and like to zero dollars unless you absolutely have to.
first is your down pipe 3 or 3.5. If it is 3.5. Use it, gutt the cat( Allot of guy's are going to disagree w this) then use the after cat piece.
Use a piece from the rear part of the pipe to make a bend to the outside of the cab, This will get you about a foot from the cab panel. Then purchase a long 5in tip.

P.S Most guy's here do not like to gut the cat for reasons of future emissions test. I am not worried about that. But use at your own risk. Some will say buy a $40 cat delete pipe. I personally like to tinker without just buying stuff.

I agree with this too. If you need a larger down pipe, Then just buy the whole system. Or call guy's like this whom have shops. Some folk do not like to work on there own truck, So places like Extreme install their exhaust for them. So maybe they have stock 3.5 downs sitting around or bends for that matter.

I have side exhaust before the rear tire and it is 4" pipe with about a 1/4" clearance between the frame and the pipe

Also have a 4"in to 5" out slant cut tip that is 18" long!!!
